finale progress

downsizing

i’ve been totally overwhelmed with this project and so i’ve decided to make a smaller room and take photos of it and display the photos on my blog. like in clay animations they make the little environments and film it and it looks like it’s real life size on the screen. the trickery.

what to doo…

I just wanted to build a little room and paint it blue. is that so hard? why cant i paint the walls, they just wont stay up. im sure when i put this all together it will just fall down. i haven’t even started my mobile to hang in the room but im sure that it wont work. i just make everything so hard for myself all of the time. but how else will i represent vastness without a little blue room to put the mobile in? that’s my question.

finale ideas/ presentations

For my finale, i want to make a room with giant hanging mobiles. In one of my previous explorations on the line i made a small mobile and hung it in the woods. i have decided that the feel i get when i think of vast is empty and peaceful, but not in a bad way. and when i made the mobile last week and hung it up i got that same peaceful empty feeling. i want to make sure that the installation reflects this. it’s kind of a personal project for me, and i feel like in order to experience it a person will have to walk in this space. I’m think that it will be in Cohen somewhere in the corner, i will have to build for walls. i have already begun to collect things to hang, and i think that the forms of the hanging objects will be very important. it might end up representing a solar system, at least I’m hoping to create this illusion.

vast

my first thoughts about the word vast was of a desert, or somewhere wide and cold and maybe windy.then i thought about the photographs taken my one of my good friends back home, Corey Defucio. to me they seem very vast. he gave my permission to post some on my blog!

here is the freedictionary.com defenition of vast
adj. vast·er, vast·est
1. Very great in size, number, amount, or quantity.
2. Very great in area or extent; immense.
3. Very great in degree or intensity. See Synonyms at enormous.
n. Archaic

An immense space.

it’s interesting to me that i chose the word vast among all the other words on the wall. usually i like little things. things with little meaning, little animals, little coffee shops, little shoes.  so i tend to believe in fate, well not quite fate, but the omens that try to tell us things. when i chose vast i thought “this could be interesting and different for me” and it certainly will be, and maybe it’s what i need to be doing right now. thinking immensly.

my 6-8 explorations of the line

So in my post earlier today, i talked about random activities that i wanted to do on the line, i had already gathered these objects on my other walks on the line, and i did explorations in the book about them.

i made a paper airplane in and threw it on the line. i realized that i actually don’t know how to make a paper airplane and it came out really bad and didn’t fly very far

i ate a lot of candy corn on the line! but i don’t think i like it anymore, i used to as a child. but when i ate this particular candy corn on the line i kind of got sick of them.

i rolled around on the line! this wasn’t a very good place to roll around there were sticks and rocks. i should’ve found a nice grassy hill or something.

here i am rollerskating on the line! this is outside of harder hall. it was such a beautiful day today =)

Exploration #36 the truth about inanimate objects

this feather definitely has an attitude when no one else is around. i found her randomly, without any other pink feathers around it. she escaped her family of pink feathers because she just wants to be different. don’t you think?

i think that this little object is two little objects together. and they’re best friends like in the show cat dog when the cat and the dog are attacked but they just live together and talk to each other. when i first found this it was a little leave with the seed in the middle but the other pieces broke off in my bag.

thoughts about exploring the line

Most of the time, i feel apathetic about exploring the line. it’s just this invisible line that stretches across campus and how do i explore it? it’s not like there’s a zipline running through it or a mote around it. so i thought, why not just do some ridiculous or random things on the line?! that is certainly a way of exploring. here are some ideas I came up with:

Rolling around on the line

Roller skating on the line

Dancing on the line

napping on the line (probably wont do this since it’s chilly out)

making a paper airplane on the line

eating candy corn on the line

and other things, i don’t know, just some ideas that i had.

here are some raccoons having a tea party. classy right?!
